Giant Squid - for Stock Heatsinks
High-Performance, Ultra-Quiet single-fan cooling system for your Bitaxe Gamma. Unique look - a statement piece on your desk in your office (silent, of course!), or in your home.
Will operate in complete silence at 1.0 TH/s. You literally cannot hear it, even from 2 feet away.
Can also take your stock setup to 1.5 TH/s at 60C ASIC, 50C VR, with a very low, soothing fan sound. NOT sound like a swarm of mosquitos, and NOT look like a janky pile of tiny fans strapped to a small factory stand. If you want even more hashrate performance check out the Stage 2 or Stage 3 Heatsink Upgrade.
With a single 120mm fan, the Giant Squid directs optimized airflow across ALL the Gamma's hotspots:
- the main ASIC heatsink
- the ENTIRE back-side of the board including:
- Voltage Regulator
- Coil
- MOSFETS
- ASIC back-side cooling plane
- top-side Voltage Regulator cooling plane
Selecting your Size:
- See "Heatsink Measuring Guide" in the product list
- The Giant Squid is optimized for, and fit to, the specific size of your Bitaxe's main ASIC heatsink (the large one on the top of the board with the tiny factory fan).
- Please measure your main heatsink (at the TOP of the fins), and select the appropriate Giant Squid.
- If you can't find your size or are unsure of what to select, just message me and we'll sort it out, either after you order or beforehand. Use the 'Contact' product.
Included in this Package:
- Giant Squid Cooling system:
- 1) Tri-Duct - specific models for most factory heatsinks (see Sizing Guide in products).
- Main duct directs most of the 120mm fan's airflow through the main ASIC heatsink.
- Top-side VR duct directly targets the heatsink* opposite the Voltage Regulator, and keeps the soft plastic of the power plug cool.
- Bottom-side duct directs airflow to the Cradle, cooling ALL bottom-side heatsinks* and the entire bottom of the PCB
- 2) Cradle with Adjustable Mounting Flange
- Securely holds the Bitaxe board
- Manages airflow across the entire back side of the PCB
- Adjustable flange accomodates slight variations in size and alignment of the main heatsink and the Tri-Duct.
- 3) All Mounting Hardware - featuring top quality stainless steel bolts and threaded brass inserts. Easy to assemble. No extra washers or nuts to deal with. No cheap screws into plastic. Finished look of a quality engineered product.
- Hardware to mount a standard 120mm fan plus standard finger guard
- Hardware to mount the Bitaxe Gamma
- Hardware to mount the Cradle to the Triduct
- 1) Tri-Duct - specific models for most factory heatsinks (see Sizing Guide in products).

Note about Additional Heatsinks:
- For optimal cooling, five additional heatsinks are recommended, even when running on default settings. These are not typically included with most factory Bitaxes.
- With over-clocking, additional heatsinks on the top and bottom side of the board are an absolute must.
- A complete upgrade kit including the five additional heatsinks, each one size-optimized to the specific hotspots on the Gamma, is available separately for a reasonable price. These are all aluminum, adhesive-backed, and selected to fit the exact dimensions of each hotspot.
- The Giant Squid Cooling system can accomodate most after-market adhesive heatsinks (e.g. the chunky copper ones for Raspberry Pi). However, the stubby finning on many of these limits their cooling capability. Their sizes can be too large to mount properly or too small to be effective.
Items not included in this package:
-
120mm Fan
- the Giant Squid is specifically designed for the Noctua NF-F12 5V PWM or the Noctua AF-F12 5V PWM (very quiet, well-engineered fans). These are plug-and-play with the Bitaxe (it can control their speed) and plug-and-play with the Giant Squid.
- The Giant Squid will work with any standard 120mm PC fan, however most of these operate on 12 Volts, and cannot be plugged directly into the Bitaxe Gamma. See the Bitaxe and Chill 12V fan power supply, or the Bitaxe and Chill 5V-12V adapter!
- Stage 1 Heatsink Upgrade - 5 additional heatsinks to cool ALL the hotspots.
- Fan finger guard - the Giant Squid uses a fan that operates in the 'blowing' configuration - with most fans this means the spinning blades are exposed to fingers, children, and pets. I have chosen a well-built, well-fit, affordable and attractive fan guard that, most importantly, will not limit the airflow very much. See it in the products section. Safety first!
