Super Duty 100W Bitaxe Power Supply - Meanwell LRS-100-5 with 16 Gauge Cables and Custom Stand

Fully assembled, super-duty Bitaxe Gamma power supply with heavy duty 16 gauge DC cables, attractive stand, and AC cable, with no exposed electrical terminals. Can drive one or two Bitaxes.

The Meanwell LRS-100-5 is a great power supply unit (PSU) upgrade for the Bitaxe Gamma. It has great voltage regulation, additional power to 100W, ample convective cooling, and features a 5V adjustment control (typical range 4.6-5.6V). It has ample power to supply two heavily overclocked Gammas. One cable is included. A second cable can be added as an option.

The system includes upgraded 16 gauge (16 AWG) DC power cables. The stock Bitaxe PSU has much lighter gauge cables (typically 20-18 gauge), that get warm and drop significant voltage when over-clocking. The voltage drop on the stock cables can be as high as 0.5V; enough to cause a voltage error shutdown on your Bitaxe when heavy over-clocking.

After assembly I load test and calibrate your Meanwell to 5.1V prior to shipping. The tapered calibration port on the stand will easily guide a Philips-head screwdriver to the voltage trim-pot for your own tuning. 

Many Bitaxe users, especially the over-clockers, use open-frame DC power supplies like the Meanwell LRS series because of the higher power, better cooling and voltage regulation, full isolation, and adjustable DC voltage. However, the exposed terminals of the Meanwell supplies not only look 'unfinished' but they are a huge SAFETY HAZARD. The 120-220V AC terminals can deliver a LETHAL SHOCK, and small fingers and metal objects can contact them easily. This stand keeps you safe, while still delivering the best power supply upgrade!

I designed this stand primarily to completely cover the exposed electrical terminals. I think it looks great, and matches the 'exposed electronics' esthetic of the Bitaxe and the Giant Squid. The following additional features really make it a welcome companion to your Bitaxe:

Comes standard with 3-prong grounded US Plug. *International plugs available for 100-240V - see 'AC Plug' option.

I build it by default with a 5.5mm x 2.5mm coax DC power connector. Can be changed to a 2.1mm connector for no additional charge (leave a message with your order, or reply to the confimation email). I do not recommend using a 2.5 to 2.1mm adapter - these adapters are not designed to accomodate the 6-9 amps of continuous current when over-clocking.

Measuring the Power Connector

The best way to measure is with a set of calipers on the inner post of the Bitaxe DC connector. Another way is to get a 3/32" drill bit and stick it in the female end of the cable on your stock PSU, or compare it side-by-side with the post on the Bitaxe. A 3/32" bit (2.38mm) will fit in a 2.5mm plug, but will not go into a 2.1mm plug.
